Kate Taylor

Kate was admitted to practice in 2017 after completing a Bachelor of Arts and the Juris Doctor at the University of Melbourne. Over the course of her legal career Kate has worked with all manner of family law clients. She began her career as a private family law practitioner working at a mid-tier law firm in the Melbourne CBD for a number of years.

Kate then stepped into a role at Victoria Legal Aid where she assisted vulnerable Victorians to navigate a range of legal issues including family violence and family law. She joined Canterbury Family Law as a Senior Associate when the firm was established in 2024.

Central to Kate’s practice is her focus on resolution. She strives to find the most pain-free and dignified path for her clients to reestablish themselves following separation. Kate guides her clients sensitively through the family law process, using mediation and litigation strategically as required.

She has experience across all areas of family law; empowering clients to establish child-focused parenting arrangements, negotiating the division of property interests including where the family’s financial affairs are complex and meticulously drafting financial and child support agreements.

When she’s not working, Kate can usually be found up a ladder renovating her home, chasing after her three young children or trying to relax reading a magazine, in the bath or binge-watching trashy TV (sometimes all three at once).
